Freedom Farms is proud to offer a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between our farm and you. Freedom Farms grows food for the greater Pittsburgh community and the community supports our farm. By making a commitment to Freedom Farms, you become “members” of the CSA program. When you buy a share of the harvest; the farmers then use this money for seeds, greenhouse expenses, equipment, and labor. In return, members receive a weekly assortment of the farm’s products.
It is a relationship that we have extended to include half shares. Often, folks are vacationing or simply miss the deadline to register for our full CSA program. By popular demand, we now offer the Half Share CSA beginning in August. Your share will last thirteen weeks. We are able to continue to do the work that we love, pouring our daily energy into providing fresh, wholesome food that we can be proud of, because of our loyal investors. Our fruits and vegetables are ripened on the vine without all of the pesticides and GMOs found in shipped produce. Our farm-raised meat has no added growth hormones or steroids. The same is true for our farm fresh eggs, milk and dairy products. Our carry out food is prepared with our fresh products.
You know that you are supporting local farmers. You know that what you are often eating Friday was picked on Thursday. You know that your family will be safe from many of the carcinogens found in produce that has been shipped at discounted prices and ripened in a truck. And let’s not forget about flavor! There are some obvious reasons why tomatoes from Freedom Farms Farmers Market taste better: sunlight, soil and attention. We don’t need the additives to preserve our produce. And how about variety? We work hard to provide your favorite staples, but we also will introduce you to foods you will never see in your local grocery store!
You can have a huge impact on the farmers in your community by becoming a CSA member. And you can impact the greater community by reducing the miles that your food travels from 2000 miles to 20 (or maybe even 2)! Eating the way your grandparents did will improve the quality of the recipes you are making at home, and you can share this experience with your own children. Now that’s a tradition worth passing on!
We offer shares for every household and interest. Check out our unique variety of CSAs and subscribe today to get a full season of benefits. Time is running out for the 26 week-long shares!
