So, What Is A CSA?
You’re running late. You look in the fridge and see you’re out of produce, low on milk, and don’t know what to make for dinner. This means you have to stop at the grocery store tomorrow because you forgot to shop this weekend. Does this sound familiar?
If this does, we have a solution. At Freedom Farms, we are now offering a CSA subscription. CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, allows customers and consumers to buy a share up front and invest in a farm at the beginning of the season. In return, they receive the freshest produce, meats, and more straight from the source on a weekly basis.
We do the shopping for you. You pick it up. It’s that simple.
Our CSA shares are more than a pre-packaged shopping cart. Because each share includes seasonal items that are in their prime, your diet becomes seasonal and a true farm to fork diet. You’ll be able to plan meals ahead of time with our seasonal guide and recipes given each week. However, exact items in each share will vary throughout the year, which gives our customers the ability to experiment with their food. When you buy a CSA share, you pay up front for the value of the goods that will be sold to you. This allows us to plan more effectively for the growing season ahead.
With a community of CSA subscribers, we will be able to focus on growing our crops instead of worrying about finances for seeds, supplies, and basic needs for spring time. We will have the ability to plan exactly what we’re going to plant to meet demand. We can plant specifically for our customers, without guessing how many we will have or what they will eat.
For years, we’ve been using a cramped space in the back of our Farmers Market to clean, pack, and cool our produce. Over the years, it’s become harder to meet the demand of our customers using this space. Last year, we begun construction on a packing house located next to the fields on our farm. When this building is finished, our harvesting and packing systems will be much more efficient, and our produce will be fresher when it reaches our customers. Our CSA program will help complete the project, and we can’t wait.
We appreciate the support of our customers and of our community, and we look forward to the upcoming season. You can help us by purchasing a CSA share and committing to purchase your vegetables, meats, dairy, flowers, prepared foods, and even donuts from us every week, six months out of the year.
