Local Food From Freedom Farms
With so many choices of how and where to buy food, it's hard to be smart about what we put on the table. Through our Farmers Markets, Local Food Shops and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program, we devote every day to making that choice easier.
Buy Fresh, Buy Local
These days, it’s too easy to ignore where your food comes from and not stop to think about why you can buy blueberries in the middle of winter, but the fact remains: the average meal travels almost 2000 miles from field to fork. Generally, the fruits and vegetables you can buy at a chain grocery store were picked while they were still green and matured on a plane, a truck, or a warehouse shelf.
When you buy local food, you drastically lower the miles between you and your food source. Buying local food gives you the ability to know exactly where your food is coming from and, sometimes, to meet the people who have produced it for you. Local food also lets you know you are eating completely fresh produce, without chemical sprays or pesticides and natural, farm raised meats, with no added hormones or steroids.
It also just plain tastes better! A just-picked cucumber has a completely different flavor than one ripened in a warehouse where sugars turn to starches, plant cells shrink and food loses its flavor and color. When you buy local, you get superior, in-season produce that tastes better than anything that’s been shipped to your area. Fresh produce explodes with flavor.
Along with all of these tasty and healthy benefits to buying local food, you are also helping to support local farmers in your area and to ensure future generations will have the ability to consume fresh and flavorful food. Buying local food is an investment in your community’s future.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
What Is CSA?
Freedom Farms is proud to offer a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program. A CSA is an investment program where community members get the chance not only to buy local, but buy directly from the farmer that grew the produce, at a slightly discounted price. When you subscribe to our CSA program, you are making a difference by supporting local agriculture while getting honest-to-goodness farm-grown products, produce and meats from Freedom Farms in return.
How Does CSA Work?
In our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, you have two options to help Freedom Farms have a successful season.
- CSA Drop Point Program: Purchasing seasonal shares of food or flowers
- CSA Card Program: Subscribing to a payment card that can be used on any food or product at any of our locations.
Current CSA Drop Points
We offer a list of our current CSA drop points for you to see if there is a drop point in your area if you decide to take part in our CSA Drop Point Program. If there is not a drop point near you, let us know by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can work with you to get one set up in your neighborhood.

What We Grow
When you buy from Freedom Farms or your closest local farmer, you’ll also be introduced to more variety in your fresh produce. You don’t just get peppers; you get semi sweets, bells and bananas, hot, jalapeños and more! Local farmers are free to be creative in their choices regarding what they grow. You may just get tomatoes at the supermarket, but at the farmers market, you can find heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and an assortment of others.
Every growing season on our farms near Wexford, Pennsylvania, we grow a large variety of fresh produce that our customers love. We always work to ensure we grow the essential produce during each season, so that you and your family are able to bring home fresh produce that will taste great in your homemade meals.
Our Local Food Shops
In addition to the mouth-watering produce and farm-raised meats that we butcher to sell in our Farmers Market near Hampton Township, we also prepare tasty Take n’ Bake foods, such as pies, that will give you great homemade taste without needing to do any of the prep work yourself. We also offer delicious baked goods at our Butler, PA Donut Shop and tasty made-to-order sandwiches at our nearby Sandwich Shop that are handcrafted from our own farm-fresh ingredients.
